Joint Statement of the Government of India and the NSCN-IM

Chiang Mai, 30 July 2004

The representatives of the Government of India and the NSCN held talks at Chiangmai on 29-30 July 2004.

The two sides reiterated commitment to the peace process and confirmed that no new conditions have been imposed on or changes made to the agenda and the scope of the talks.

All issues will continue to be discussed with a view to reaching a mutually acceptable and honourable settlement as soon as possible.

The parties therefore decided to extend the ceasefire by another year beyond the 31st of July 2004.

A range of issues relating to the workings of the ceasefire were discussed and reviewed by the parties and both sides agreed to fully implement the ceasefire rules.
