The National Roundtable for Dialogue and Negotiation, present in Villa Nueva Colombia, the main venue for dialogue and negotiations, in Los Pozos in the municipality of San Vicente del Caguán, communicate that they have reached the following agreement:
Proposals regarding the ceasefire and cessation of hostilities have been exchanged today to take forward Agreement No.
16, dated 31 May 2000.
The National Roundtable for Dialogue and Negotiation, in line with Communication No.
12, dated 13 April 2000, will continue studying the issues on the shared agenda, particularly economic growth and employment.
The national government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia – Ejército Popular, FARC–EP) have agreed to establish a deadline of one month, which may be extended, for the internal study of the proposals presented by each of the parties.
As agreed, the study of the proposals will be in-depth, confidential, careful and will take into account past experiences.
Their content will only be disclosed when the roundtable decides.
Similarly, it has been agreed not to make public comments on the content of the proposals received.
Official statements regarding the ceasefire and cessation of hostilities will only be made by the President of the Republic, the High Commissioner for Peace, members of the National Roundtable for Dialogue and Negotiation and the Commander of FARC–EP, Manuel Marulanda.
The National Roundtable for Dialogue and Negotiation ratifies that once there is progress in the negotiation, peace results will be produced.
