JOINT STATEMENT

The recent armed skirmishes between our forces notwithstanding, and effective measures having been put in place to prevent occurrence of similar unfortunate events, we, the undersigned, hereby agreed to proceed with the opening ceremony of the formal peace talks between the GRP and the MILF as scheduled on 25 October, 1999.

We, alsohereby announce that the respective work of the Joint Preparatory Committee and the other sub-committees already organized shall continue unabated in order to ensure the success of the holding of the aforesaid opening ceremony.

Done this 6th day of October, 1999, at the Provincial Capitol Building, Crossing Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao
